I have a vintage Artley flute that my parents bought for me second-hand back in about 1983, the model/serial number is 583169. I think the year of manufacture is 1979. It was my parents understanding when they bought the flute that it was silver plated. Can anyone confirm this by the above serial number? Unfortunately, Artley has long sold out and gone out of business. So you will not find a website to research your questions but the model of your flute - '15-0' designates it to be a beginner model, closed hole, C-foot flute. I had one myself back in the day.

The serial number would not have any basis on it being silver-plated or solid silver, but the model number does. I had one of the student models such as yours is and really loved that flute. I still have it. But sadly, it is sitting in the case in pieces.

Nickel or silver plate or solid silver I suggest that you visit ebay and look for similar Artley flutes and see what price they are bringing. This is a great way to educate yourself as to what your flute is or isn't. In my experience, most used Artley flutes out there tend to be studemt grade flutes. Don't get me wrong, they did produce conservatory quality flutes; they are just few and far between.

The death knell and pit of poor quality was when they were making flutes in Nogales, AZ - if yours is stamped with Nogales as the place of manufacture, then this has almost NO resale value - and might make an OK lamp.
