Add the site to the exclusion list with the same that you use to sign in with ASDM. (Browser) You need to trust the certificate of the ASA. If you did not give the ASA a cert, it has a self signed cert. -Go to where you downloaded the ASDM module through the web gui and you should be able to download the cert from the browser (IE or Chrome, click on the 'View Certificate' button, and there should be a 'Copy' cert.
All defaults and DER is fine.) -Open Java control panel as admin, click Security -> Manage Certificates ->choose 'Secure Site' (i do this under 'user' but i doubt it matters) -> Click 'Import', find the cert you saved and import it. (When browsing for the file, change the file type to All (*.*) - it doesnt' matter that the cert isn't.cer or whatever java is looking for) Retry.. if you are using a self signed cert, the ASA will generate itself a new one each time you reload.
Hello everyone, I know this had been asked before, but I think my issue is different: - ASA 5505 ver. 8.2 (5) - Device Manager Ver. You do not need an older version of java. You need to add the site to the exclusion list with the same that you use to sign in with ASDM (or DNS name if you don't use an IP). [You said you already did this so you're good there.
It should be https but no issues setting up both.] 2. You need to trust the certificate of the ASA. (When browsing for the file, change the file type to All (*.*) - it doesnt' matter that the cert isn't.cer or whatever java is looking for) You're done. Now go back to ASDM and it should launch.
IMPORTANT NOTE: if you are using a self signed cert, the ASA will generate itself a new one EVERY time you reload the ASA and you must do the steps again. If you have a PKI, I'd recommend generating your own cert and trusting it via a root cert chain of trust so reloads do not require you to download and install the cert each and every time. I'm running the latest Java and ASDM for 5505s and 5510s. This has worked for several versions of Java and ASDM. @CA_2013 thanks for the reply.
I have done steps 1-3 as you mentioned exactly, but no cigar. I was actually getting another error 'Unable to launch device manager' following your greatly appreciated mentioned steps. Went down 1 rev. Java 7u45, got a different error. Well, there was actually no errors at all, the ASDM just hung at updating software. Went down 1 more rev. Java 6u45 (had to create an oracle account to be able to access archives) and that's when it finally wanted to work.
NOW, here's the kicker, I have a 3-pack Ubiquity with the controller software installed on the same machine as the ASDM access, Aaaand, wait for it. It is requiring Java 7u45 to run.
