If you're meeting the recommended specs you may not have bothered to run the compatibility tool, but you should still run it to check your USB 3.0 ports. Apparently the ones on my motherboard (Asmedia controller) are known to cause problems.

At first I thought this was meaningless since the tool is doing some other silly things (like saying some CPUs aren't compatible even though they're faster than the recommended spec) but then I saw on the oculus forums: So, there are a variety of different USB controllers, and not all of them are fully compatible with the Rift. The Compatibility Tool will show you a warning if this controller is known to cause problems. Even though the port may be labeled as USB 3.0, and be functional, it may not work with the Rift. If you do have this issue, you can buy a PCI-E add-on card. This one is confirmed to work.

Just a heads up. NOTE: I think any of the versions of this card should work as they all use the Fresco controller, but obviously the 2 port one isn't going to give you enough to run the Rift plus the Touch.

Also make sure it's one of the powered cards (comes with internal power cables). Pixillion image converter registration code. I received the card from Amazon (the 5 port+20 pin version) and can confirm it passes the test. If you keep your incompatible ports enabled it will still give you a warning message but you should be good to go as long as you don't use them for the Rift. I just disabled my Asmedia ports since this thing has 7 ports anyway (including the 2 front panel ports it gave me). Feels like a quality card, not cheap junk. Honestly me too. I'm making a game for oculus-- So I'm speaking as a developer. It's just really annoying to spend like 2k plus in equipment-- have it be working fine for over a year- then in one update force me to get a new usb 3 controller.

It's just super super annoying. It's like it the moment where you realize you are in abusive relationship and you are doing everything possible to get this thing up and going but then they just ask one more thing of you, and is it pointless and petty compared to everything else that you have done. But it kills me that they think so little of me. Honestly it makes me want to spite them and just develop for Valve-- I doubt I will do that, but it is that level of a slight. --edit-- that is true about the early usb 3.0 chip sets being dodgy. I guess this is a decently old mobo.

So maybe I shouldn't be so pissed. Imation superdisk driver windows 7.

Skip background and jump to This update utility is Windows-only and requires a USB 3.0 capable PC. If your PC has USB 2.0 rather than USB 3.0 ports, or if you use a Mac, you will not be able to complete this upgrade, and should instead contact support@plugable.com. For Mac customers wishing to update, a Windows installation in BootCamp can complete this update, however virtual machines like Parallels, VMWare, or VirtualBox are NOT able to complete this update. Plugable products for which the updates in this post are relevant are listed in the table below. Since the updates vary with chipset, to update your hub, you must first determine it’s chipset. You may check the table below for expected chipset based on shipping date, however checking in device manager or system profiler for the device’s vendor and product ID’s is the more accurate and recommended method.
