Just above this area is a place called Bitter Cold which is, as you guessed, bitter cold. They need better names. I’m sure the Kodan or Quaggans could’ve come up with something better. Maybe it was named by the Svanir, they’ve proven in this episode that their intelligence is very limited. When you’re playing the story, you’ll craft a potion to limit the effect of the cold on you, but once you’re done, you’ll have to find some other way to gain this potion.

That’s where the repeatable hearts come in. Complete the hearts to gain the potion to enter this area, which will open up for two hours after you’ve taken the potion.

It is difficult but grants high rewards, so it’s definitely worth venturing in there. The whole map is set up for exploration. Even when you play through the story you won’t have seen all there is to see. I’ve seen mushrooms up in the tall, grand trees with orbs of unbound magic on them. It’s possible to get there, but I haven’t taken the time yet. Some areas are hard to get through when you’re walking alone.
