Good old Atheros, I remember the fun I had with my laptop wireless Atheros adapter when I first bought it. You may be able to use ndiswrapper, that was my fix for my wireless card. It allows you to use a windows driver within linux. Although its meant for wireless cards mostly, the documentation does say it can work with other devices as well. I havn't had to use it for a long time, so can't remember how to configure it, but I recall it was pretty simple - obviously install it (yum still has it available on my system FC19), and download a windows driver to start with. I'm assuming you dont have any network access with your laptop at the moment, so installing might be an issue. You could download the RPM from RPMfind, not sure about dependencies though.

Some older instructions are still saying to build it from source. I recall having a few versions of the source floating around, which means for me I probably did have to build it for whatever reason, but I did get it working successfully and was using it for a number of releases before my cards driver became available. I ran the Fedora Live CD. And booted perfectly fine and detected my wired NIC and had the ALX driver for my NIC card. The reason I was asking for Linux drivers, I have a VMware PCoIP CD that I put in my cd-rom and boot from it to connect to my work. Because I work from home. For some reason.
